Company Background
Producers Direct is a global network that empowers over 1.3 million smallholder farmers across Latin America and East Africa through farmer-led solutions. Since 2009, it has shifted from training to transforming food value chains, focusing on:
- Digitized Market Access via the FarmDirect marketplace
- Data & Information Services through Croppie, an AI-powered crop yield and advisory app
- Amplifying Collective Power by investing in farmer leadership and knowledge-sharing communities
Our Product
Croppie uses smartphone images and AI to provide yield predictions (with ~90% accuracy) and climate-smart guidance to smallholder coffee farmers—delivered via app, SMS, and WhatsApp. Farmers also gain market access through the FarmDirect platform.
Under this agtech project, Producers Direct aims to:
- Gather farmers’ preferences for data delivery, dashboards, and agronomic advice
- Upgrade Croppie, including WhatsApp integration and enhanced advisory features powered by large language models
- Deliver climate-smart agronomic recommendations tailored to local needs
